Fig is the closest fit for a fixed dietary rule such as Low FODMAP, low histamine, alpha-gal or gluten-free, and its web catalogue answers without a login, which matters when the phone stays in a pocket. For the dataset, there is no equal alternative
No alternative publishes a comparable open food dataset. Open Food Facts releases its whole database under the Open Database Licence 1.0, so it can be downloaded, re-hosted and checked against itself. Commercial APIs sell query access to records that stay with the vendor, which is a different arrangement wearing the same description.

The share-alike condition in ODbL 1.0 is the reason the data can be redistributed at all. An adapted database offered publicly has to be offered under the same licence, which is a real obligation to read before building a commercial product — and also the mechanism that stops the dataset being enclosed by whoever forks it first. Teams who treat the clause as a cost usually have not priced the thing it buys.
What it buys is auditability. With the dump in hand you can see which fields exist for a product, when the record last changed and who changed it, and you can recompute a derived value instead of accepting one. Move to a closed API and each of those becomes a support ticket. The records still arrive, the ability to check them does not.
A licence you can read is a property of the data, not of the company. If you cannot hold the record, you cannot see when it changed — and every number built on it has to be taken on trust.
Why this search answers two audiences at once

None of that argues against leaving. It argues that the reasons to leave are specific — you need cosmetics in the same app, you need offline use on a paid tier, you need a dietary attribute filter — and that a general sense of dissatisfaction is not one of them.

The third state is the part worth borrowing regardless of which tool you use. A checker that prints a verdict while quietly counting names it failed to parse as clean has turned a gap in its data into a statement about a product. It is also the wrong tool for nutrition. Sugar per serving, sodium and protein sit on the nutrition panel, not in the ingredient list, so Nutri-Score and NOVA group are questions LabelPeek does not answer at all. Open Food Facts computes both and gives the inputs away, which is a straightforward reason to keep it installed alongside anything else.
On cosmetics it will disagree with other tools, deliberately. No regulator anywhere issues or certifies a comedogenic ingredient list, and the published lists contradict each other on individual ingredients, so the pore-clogging ingredient checker prints its list in full with a version date. A tool that hides its reference cannot be argued with, only believed — and on a question with no official answer, that distinction is the whole thing.
